Run Time: 87 minutes

Rating: 18s

Director: Leslye Headland

Actor: Kristen Dunst, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson

Plot: Regan, Gena and Katie are asked to be bridesmaids at Becky’s wedding, a girl who they all despised in high school. However, the night before the wedding, everything goes wrong, when making a joke about Becky’s dress they end up ripping it. They spend the night desperately figuring out how to fix the dress but will they be able to fix it before the wedding or before Becky finds out?

Comment: Overall, this movie was quite disappointing. It lacked innovation and a solid story line. The actors were mismatched and didn’t gel together. The comedy aspect of the movie was weak and unfortunately it was one of those movie which the trailer is funnier than the actual movie itself.

Title: Crazy Stupid Love

Director: Glen Ficarra

Run Time: 118 minutes

Genre: Romantic Comedy with a twist

Plot Line:

Cal Weaver is a middle- aged man who has lost inspiration in himself and also his relationship. After his wife cheats on him and asks for a divorce, Cal spirals into a world of self- doubt and pity until he meets Jacob Palmer a smooth talking ladies man who helps him reinvent himself. Both men partake on a journey into their manhood and both realise that they are closer than they think.

Comments/ Overall opinion of the movie:

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, it was engaging, humorous and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were the perfect actors for the role as they embodied the unusual  quirky relationships between their characters. Steve Carrell  was the perfect character that was taken under Goslings wing. However, the one aspect of the movie I didn’t like was the babysitter story, which in my opinion was a bit over the top.

Overall I would give this movie an overall star rating of

4/5

Rating: 12A

Director: Robert Zemeckis

Actors: Tom Hanks, Sally Field, Robin Wright

Plot: Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is a man with a low I.Q. but is a kind man and does the right thing. All his he has been teased and called names but his mum and only friend Jenny (Robin Wright) are by his side. Forrest joins the army, finding new friends Bubba and Dan and starts beginning to inspire people. All he cares about is his childhood sweetheart Jenny.

Comments: This movie has it all drama, humor, sadness and  action all in one. Tom Hanks is great in this film and he shows the innocence in Forrest Gump. The famous line 'Run, Forrest! Run!' is a great scene because his braces fall off his legs and himself running is a big theme in the movie.

Run Time: 129 minutes

Rating: 12A

Director: Joe Wright

Actors: Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald

Plot: This movie is set in 19th Century upper class society in Russia.  It follows the story of a woman, Anna Karenina played by Kiera Knightley who battles with the idea of marriage, divorce and affairs. She is wooed by an affluent Count Vronsky played by Jude Law. Although Anna is married she embarks on an affair with Vronsky. This adaptation shows how society treats those who stray from the sanctity of marriage.

CommentsOverall, I enjoyed this movie, it was compelling and kept me interested until the end. Knightley gave a convincing performance as she captured the anguish and torment which Karenina faced. My one criticism of this movie would be that I didn’t particularly enjoy how the movie was set on a stage and focused on the stage when changing scenes.

Genre:
 Romance/ Drama/ Classic

Run Time: 142 minutes

Rating: 12A

Director: Baz Luhrmann

Actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Joel Buchanan, Carey Mulligan

PlotSet in the time of the First World War. This classic novel is about the life of the famous party- thrower Jay Gatsby. He is the “king” of West Egg- the elite place to live. No-one knows Gatsby very well. The majority of guests at his party have never even met Gatsby before. However Gatsby is not as he seems, his sinister behaviour leaves much to be desired. Other inhabitants of West Egg include Nick(the narrator), in the readers opinion  the most “real” person on West Egg, he is a part of the nouveau riche along with Gatsby. Nick is Daisy’s cousin. Daisy lives in West Egg with her brute of a husband Tom, they have a daughter together. Throughout the novel Gatsby’s secrets unravel and in their destruction leave the real inhabitants of West Egg.

Comments: I believe that Luhrmann did a fantastic job in recreating this classic. Although there has been much criticism about this adaptation, I found that it was true to the book and expressed the motifs within the beautifully; for example, the green light at the end of the dock and the lavishness of the life that Gatsby lived.  The music also fitted in perfectly with the movie. I couldn’t recommend this movie enough- I would watch it again and again! My one criticism would be that it was unnecessary for it to be in 3d.

Actors: Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Simon Woods, Donald Sutherland, Brenda Blethyn, Rosamund Pike, Talulah Riley, Carey Mulligan

Plot: Based on Jane Austen's novel 'Pride & Prejudice'. Mrs.Bennet is trying to find husbands for her five unmarried daughters. Their sights are changed when two rich men, Mr.Bingley and his friend Mr.Darcy arrive into town. Which of the Bennet sisters will grab the chance and will a higher class man fall in love with someone who is in a lower class than them.

Comments: The cast and Keira Knightley did a wonderful job and played their roles excellently. Even though the movie had to be cut down a lot to be made into a movie and many things were cut out it still was very good. There is also a BBC version which is 5 hours which is very close to the books description.

Plot: Bollywood style of Jane Austen's famous novel. Mrs.Bakshi is looking to find suitable husbands for her 4 unmarried daughters. When a rich American comes to visit India with a friend, the Bakshi's have high hops. But certain things threaten to get in the way of romance.

Comments: Chadha has made Jane Austen's novel into a colourful Indian musical. The musical numbers are very catchy and the choreography is very good. I have not watched many Bollywood movies but this is a great movie.

Run Time: 124 minutes

Rating: 15A

Actors: Jason Segel, Emily Blunt & Chris Pratt

Plot:After just of knowing each other, Tom(Jason Segel) proposes to his girlfriend Violet (Emily Blunt). However their wedding is not as soon as he hoped, when Violet gets a new job in a new city, Tom follows her, which postpones the wedding for a year, however a series of events leads to the engagement being prolonged even further.

Comments:I hate to admit it, but this movie was a car crash from the start. The plot line was all over the place. There was no definite story as the couple fell in and out of love more times that I would like to count. Segel, despite his efforts didn’t connect with Blunt. It was a good attempt however it fell flat, and will most likely be forgetten in a matter of Hollywood minutes.

Runtime:  131 mins

Director: Oliver Stone

Actors: Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Hohnson, Benicio Del Toro, John Travolta, Salma Hayek

Plot: Pot growers Ben (Aaron Johnson) and Chon (Taylor Kitsch) have a great life at the moment. The moment is ruined when Mexican drug cartel kidnap their shared girlfriend, O (Blake Lively). With help from DEA agent (John Travolta) they fight against each other, but what will be the result. Will the agreement be drugs, money or end in death.

Comment: The beginning of this film is a bit slow but soon picks up. There are scenes of nudity, sex, drug use and language. The acting in this movie is very good, many capturing the emotions and mannerisms of their characters. The trailer may show that there is a lot of violence but during the movie it doesn't last very long. Most of the violent shots shown in the trailer are the only ones in the movie. This is a entertaining film but at times it's slow and a bit of a doze.

Plot:On the night of a discovery of another planet like earth, a young student and a composer cross paths in an accident. 4 years later she tries to find herself again but instead she finds out that the composer is alive.

Comments:I think this movie lacks in a lot of qualities that a movie needs. Sometimes it feels like someone is filming it with a hand held camera but the thing I don't like is that there isn't much romance and no action. It may be a good plot but the director doesn't show it's potential that it could be. The ending for me was too dead and I wanted to see what would happen. If you have nothing to do, go ahead and watch it but don't waste your time if it's movie night.
